Stand Up Paddle Boarding

Introduction

New location, fantastic activities.

With a new venue lined up the 2017 National Watersports Festival is set to be the best yet. This year the SUP element promises to deliver on all fronts with Rutland water as its location. Set in its own beached area with full access to the water, there will be plenty happening over the weekend of the 2nd to the 4th June.

As always, our focus is “something for everyone.” The activities we have planned range from a family friendly format, where you get to try the sport out and take part in different SUP based activities, to a full on 5k technical race. The location also boasts lakeside camping and many other activities for a family weekend – even including a bug zoo!

The NWF team have set out a club based challenge where SUP clubs can enter several activities and win points to see who will do the best on the day. Some of the activities included are SUP cross racing, SUP polo tournament, land paddling, dragon racing and Mega SUPs. For anyone who is a yoga enthusiast, we will be running some SUP yoga taster workshops too.

Add in the usual NWF magic and this promises to be one of the major SUP events of the year.

SUP CLUBS – We want you!

We know at NWF that the SUP clubs are the backbone of this sport in the UK. Therefore, we have decided to put on a club-friendly format where you can take part in a series of challenges to see how well your club will do. Check out the Event format section for more information. We hope to see as many clubs as possible being represented at NWF this year.

NEVER PADDLED BEFORE? NO PROBLEM.

We hope to encourage first time paddlers to the event as well. With taster lessons, SUP clinics and all the latest kit available which is all FREE, there is no better way to come and try SUP for the first time. We know you will get bitten by the SUP bug and never look back.

1,2,3 …. LETS RACE!

To satisfy the racers out there we will be running a 3k and 5k race for both experienced and beginner paddlers alike. This will truly be a stunning location to race in this year, you really won’t be disappointed.

FANCY AN ADVENTURE?

One of the best things about your paddle board is you can explore so many different places and types of water. This year we will be offering an adventure tour of Rutland water so you can have the opportunity to really take everything in at this amazing location.

Everyone can participate in SUP!

For 2016 it’s important to emphasise that (as with the other disciplines at the festival), we’re focused on running events that interest ALL stand-up paddlers, not just hard-core racers! Therefore, we have CLINICS, TASTER SESSIONS and SOCIAL PADDLES, plus an “entry-level” race. Those looking to race SUP will find that the NWF brings a fantastic opportunity to take part in numerous exciting events on a variety of carefully planned race courses, taking into consideration weather and water conditions on the day. Designed by riders with vast SUP competition experience, they will deliver racing allowing participation at all ability levels, as well as a spectator-friendly format with the action action close to the shore.

So whether you’re a national level competitor looking to battle against the country’s best in high-paced racing, or a relative novice looking to pick up tips from the experts and enjoy the more social side of SUP, the NWF welcomes you wholeheartedly.
