Cassie Slater

  • Has changed my life though paddleboarding. Cassie has inspired many people, including young women across Nottingham. She truely helped motivate and shape the person I am today!
  • Cassie got me into SUP in the summer of 2017. It’s something I thought I would never try and yet she got alongside me, took me from a complete novice to someone who is passionate about our waterways, fitnessing and SUPing. The first time I went I was up from a crouch to standing but went in but coached me back on the board to face my fears and its now something I encourage others to do. I paddle on Beeston canal which was a familiar running route but I neve Now not only do I derive the mental health benefits of being on the water (particularly the sunrise paddles) I can also contribute to the environmental wellbeing of my local community. She has encouraged me to take yoga and is such an encouragement to a large group of Nottingham people being proud of her home city and its people. She is amazing.

Most Inspiring Person

Dean Dunbar

Dean is registered blind but still takes on challenges that most would shy away from such as the Argyll Sea Kayak Trail, 3 lakes challenge in under 24hrs, Great Glen race non stop across Scotland, 11cities non stop & the list goes on

Cassie Salter

  • Cassie is a ray of sunshine – always bright and positive. She makes her sessions fun and inclusive – putting everyone at ease. She has helped hundreds of people to fall in love with SUP including many who were nervous of water. She has a huge sense of fun and adventure – organising SUP days out, paddling over huge aquaducts and through tunnels, fancy dress SUP sessions, splash workshops, picnics… If you can do it on board Cassie will give it a go. Not only is she a wonderful warm human being, she is also a great instructor for all abilities from beginner to distance paddler, race paddler and SUP triathlete. She’s always upbeat and inspiring with her sense of humour and can do attitude. She herself has overcome serious back surgery and regained her fitness and zest for life through SUP and SUP yoga. She’s the best!
  • Cassie is an inspiration. Following a serious back injury she developed a love of Yoga and paddle boarding and her enthusiasm is infectious. She encourages everyone regardless of ability, and makes everyone feel special. She never stops smiling, her imagination to provide challenges and experiences is endless. This is the first time in my 55 years that I have been involved in a sporting activity. Stand up paddle and yoga has improved my life physically, emotionally and socially. It has enabled me to manage my anxieties through mindfulness and by embracing the great outdoors. Because of Cassie’s wonderful personality I have met a lovely group of fun loving people. Cassie is such a deserving nominee who always puts other people’s needs before her own.
